$21 Million Electricity Investment In Wagga's Future

The Iemma Government today announced work has commenced on a new $21 million TransGrid substation at Wagga.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Energy Penny Sharpe said the substation will be built at Bomen.

"The NSW Government is committed to meeting the future energy needs of families and business' in Wagga, which is our State's largest inland city," Ms Sharpe said.

"This project is designed to strengthen the reliable supply of electricity to meet the increasing demands from residents and industry as Wagga continues to grow.

"The TransGrid substation will be located adjacent to an industrial area in Byrnes Road.

"The facility will connect to 10 of Country Energy's rural zone substations and supply power to around 14,000 residential and business customers.

"TransGrid is midway through a $1.2 billion network capital expenditure program, which is supporting the future economic growth of New South Wales."

Construction work is due to continue until mid-2008, the entire project is due to be complete late 2009.
