Environment & Community
While TransGrid has a range of environmental management systems, processes and procedures in place to safeguard the environment, the most effective environmental protection measures tend to come from our own staff members.
TransGrid's Chairman's Environmental Award is an annual award designed to recognise the efforts of individual staff and/or work teams who have taken environmental protection to the next level. It is the dedication and innovation of nominated staff that help demonstrate TransGrid's commitment to maintaining and improving the environment in which we operate.

| Chairman, Philip Higginson presents Stuart Johnston with the 2006 Chairman's Environment Award
|
|
The Chairman's Environmental Award for 2006 has been awarded to Stuart Johnston for his involvement in many programs and initiatives that have significantly raised the environmental profile of TransGrid both within the organisation and to external stakeholders. Since joining TransGrid in 2001, Stuart has been involved in many programs and initiatives that have significantly raised the environmental profile of TransGrid both within the organisation and to external stakeholders.
Stuart has been instrumental in expanding the relationship between TransGrid and Greening Australia. The GreenGrid project has led to the very successful program of propagation and planting of seedlings on properties throughout southern NSW. The GreenGrid project was awarded the Judge's Encouragement Award in the Prime Minister's Awards for Business and Community Partnerships in 2005.
Stuart is also involved in the implementation of a number of projects within the AMSIP project including the aerial laser surveying of transmission lines for both design and easement maintenance purposes, as well improvements to the TAMIS geographic and environmental database.
Environmental initiatives and programs managed by Stuart have been very well received, and have many benefits including improving relationships with TransGrid's stakeholders, promoting sustainable solutions, and most importantly, working to reduce the environmental footprint associated with our activities.
Stuart was presented with his award at a morning tea held 29 August 2006. Stuart's wife Frances was present as were a number of senior managers and executives, underscoring the value the organisation places on the environmental initiative that this award recognises.
Congratulations to Stuart, a worthy winner with a long record of environmental dedication, commitment and professionalism.
