TransGrid to build a multi-million dollar new substation at Coffs Harbour
1 July 2005
TransGrid, the NSW high voltage electricity transmission company, today announced the award of a multi-million dollar contract to United KG for the construction of a new 330,000 volt substation at Coffs Harbour. The new Substation will be built at a cost of some $30M and will be located adjacent to the existing 132,000 volt substation, which will be integrated into the new substation. TransGrid's electricity network transmits power from generators to electricity distributors such as Coffs Harbour's energy company Country Energy.
United KG won the contract through a comprehensive competitive tendering process. It has an excellent record in the construction and on time delivery of major infrastructure works. United KG is in the final phase of construction of TransGrid's new 330kV Substation at Yass
Once complete the $30M substation will play a major role in strengthening the NSW state electricity network in the NSW mid north coast area ensuring that the growing customer electricity demand in the area continues to be met.
Mr. Kevin Murray, TransGrid's newly appointed Chief Executive, said, "This state of the art substation is an integral part of TransGrid's commitment to ensuring the long term continuity of supply to the mid north coast region of NSW. This $30 million investment by TransGrid demonstrates our commitment to improving the reliability of supply to this fast growing region."
Mr Murray said that the substation is part of TransGrid's prudent capital works program to ensure that the necessary electricity infrastructure is in place to help to meet the long-term energy needs of NSW.
