Construction Commences on Coffs Harbour Substation

9 September 2005

Work has commenced on building TransGrid's new 330kV Substation at Coffs Harbour.

TransGrid, the NSW high voltage electricity network manager, has announced the establishment of site facilities and earthworks for the construction of the $30 million 330kV Substation.

The development is in response to the economic growth of the mid north coast which has seen significant rise in population with consequent residential, commercial and tourist development.

The Substation will be adjacent to the existing 132,000 volt Substation and will be integrated into the existing Substation.

The new facility will play a major role in strengthening the high voltage electricity grid in the mid north coast area ensuring that the region continues to enjoy a secure and reliable high voltage electricity supply.

Project Manager, John McCall, said "The work initially involves the establishment of site facilities, access tracks and earthworks prior to the installation of high voltage plant and equipment. Construction will be carried out over the next 10 months with expected commissioning in June 2006. Significant planning has been undertaken so that impacts on the local community are minimised."

This project is part of TransGrid's five-year $1 billion capital works program across New South Wales. TransGrid, as manager of the New South Wales high voltage network, has developed a highly reliable and secure supply of high voltage electricity in the state. TransGrid's future capital works will ensure that regions across New South Wales can take advantage of further economic expansion.

TransGrid aims to minimise impacts and inconvenience on the local community during construction. Should anyone wish to contact TransGrid about this vital work, please contact John McCall on 02 4967 8650.
