Demand Management
One of TransGrid's aims is to provide advance information to the market on the nature and location of emerging network constraints to enable interested parties to formulate and propose local generation and Demand Side Management (DSM) options, to relieve those constraints.
The advantages of local generation and DSM options are that they may:
- Reduce, defer or eliminate the need for new transmission or distribution investment; and/or
- Reduce, defer or eliminate the costs and environmental impacts of construction and operation of fossil fuel based power stations. In particular they may reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2 and noxious gases such as NOX and SOX.
One major DM project being undertaken by TransGrid (jointly with Energy Australia and Department of Planning) is the Demand Management and Planning Project (DMPP) covering the Sydney Metropolitan area. TransGrid has been a sponsor of this project since 2003. A link to that website is listed below.
