Electric and Magnetic Fields
Vision
To be recognised as a leader in the provision of transmission network services and related solutions.
Application
This policy applies to all matters associated with the presence of power frequency electric and magnetic fields and radiofrequency electromagnetic fields in relation to TransGrid's activities and is intended to ensure the responsible management of the issue.
Policy
TransGrid has a strong commitment to health and safety in all of its activities and recognises that some people are concerned about the possible health effects of power frequency electric and magnetic fields and radio frequency electromagnetic fields.
As part of its commitment TransGrid will adopt a prudent approach to this issue, including working within Australian health guidelines, and will:
- Closely monitor ongoing research and reviews by scientific panels, and overseas policy developments;
- Continuously review policies and practices;
- Measure field strengths in and around its own installations and other places where appropriate;
- Promote employees' awareness and provide information on request to interested people;
- Take power frequency electric and magnetic fields and radio frequency electromagnetic fields into account in the design and location of new facilities.
Responsibility
Group Managers and Team Leaders will ensure that TransGrid procedures associated with both power frequency electric and magnetic fields and radio frequency electromagnetic fields are complied with.
General Manager/System Operations will convene the Electric and Magnetic Fields Committee to manage the issue and report regularly to the Executive Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
