Engineering Graduate Development Program
Introduction
TransGrid's Graduate Development Program provides Graduates in Electrical Engineering and Civil/Structural Engineering with the opportunity to develop both their professional and personal skills to assist them in their future career, all whilst working with some of the best engineers and specialists in the power industry.

As the owner, operator and manager of the New South Wales high voltage transmission network TransGrid is facing a number of key challenges including managing a multi - billion dollar capital work program to expand the network to meet the ever growing demand as well as upgrading and replacing existing equipment.
Current projects include the
- Western 500kV Project
- Wollar to Wellington 330kV Transmission Line
- Kempsey to Port Macquarie 132kV Transmission Line
- Over 10 Major Substation Construction projects

Engineering Graduate Development Program
Graduates rotate into a new role every 12 months and generally undertake two or three placements prior to moving onto next level roles within the Organisation.
During this time Graduates' are provided with development and support to undertake their duties and over time gain a high degree of independence in their day to day work.
TransGrid's Graduate placements are real roles which are integral to the organisation and are important in helping in achieving goals and objectives.
The diversity of placements and locations provide graduates with a unique experience allowing them to gain an insight into different areas as well as offering the opportunity to work with our many different subject experts.

Electrical Engineering Graduates currently have over 24 different placements to choose from including:
- Project Management
- Project Development
- Asset Management
- High Voltage Design
- Protection Design
- Communication Design
- Secondary Systems Design

- Substations and Mains Projects and Maintenance
- Plant Standards and Procurement
- Communication and Control Systems Design and Management
Civil/ Structural Engineering Graduates have rotations in area such as
- Civil/ Structural Design
- Project Management
- Project Development
Placements are located at:
- Sydney CBD
- Western Sydney (Eastern Creek/ Wallgrove)
- Newcastle
- Yass (Southern NSW)
Assistance is provided to graduates required to relocate temporarily to or from regional locations as part of their development plan.

- Workplace seminars on recent and relevant engineering issues
What we look for in our Graduates?
The Graduates we are looking for are:
- Motivated and willing to learn
- Have shown an ability to think outside of the normal restraints to come up with innovative solutions to complex problems
- Work well with others and can both lead a team as well as work constructively within a team
- Good communicators who can express their thoughts or ideas clearly whether face to face or via written communication to all levels within the organisation

Qualifications and other Key Requirements
For placements on the 2009 Graduate Program
- Electrical Engineering Graduates must have recently completed or be due to complete their degree by the end of 2008 a B Eng (Electrical) preferably with Power related subjects
- Civil Engineering Graduates must have recently completed (or be due to complete their degree by the end of 2008) a B Eng (Civil/Structural)
- Academic results should reflect a consistent effort and application to studies at University
- Graduates with higher qualification such as a Masters in Engineering may apply however please note all applicant are assessed on their merits. There is no requirement for graduates entering the program to have undertaken further learning or higher study than their undergraduate degree
- Graduates with overseas qualifications/ degrees which they wish to be considered must have them assessed prior to interview by a recognised professional organisation such as Engineers Australia and be assessed as the Professional Engineer level
- Graduates will need to have a current drivers licence
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens or hold Permanent Residency at the time of applying
- All successful applicants will be required to undertake both a medical and criminal check prior to employment

Graduates who have completed their degree or will do so by the end of Semester 1 2008 may be considered for Mid - 2008 Placements (July 2008). If this is desired, please note this on application.
