TransGrid Announces Managing Director's Scholarship for Local Apprentice

TransGrid the New South Wales Manager and Operator of Australia's largest high voltage transmission system today announced that Newcastle local Michael Dalton, a 4th year apprentice at TransGrid's Newcastle Regional Centre had been awarded a Managing Director's Scholarship.

The Scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to apprentices who have demonstrated high academic achievement, leadership qualities and an interest in furthering their studies in electrical engineering.

The Scholarship will provide financial support to Michael in undertaking full time Bachelor Degree studies in Electrical Engineering, whilst also gaining valuable and practical work experience.

TransGrid's Managing Director, Kevin Murray said "The Scholarship demonstrates that TransGrid has a strong commitment to supporting young people and encouraging those who demonstrate commitment and initiative".

"Michael has achieved outstanding results during his apprenticeship, and has a real desire for further study in electrical engineering."

"We will continue to encourage and support all our employees, from young apprentices to experienced professional to achieve the best they can in their chosen fields".

This scholarship is awarded only weeks after TransGrid held an official function in Newcastle recognising long-serving employees of 25 and 40 years service.

"TransGrid is committed to life long learning and provides quality learning opportunities for employees", said Mr Murray.

Michael forms part of a team of sixty nine TransGrid apprentices working across the state.

"We have recently recruited fifteen new apprentices across regional New South Wales, many of which will be based at Newcastle", said Mr Murray.
