Murrumburrah Substation Transformer Back On Line
|
TransGrid the New South Wales high voltage electricity grid operator today announced that work on the replacement of Murrumburrah Substation's transformer has now been completed and is back in service. TransGrid's Regional Manager Southern, Mr Garry Smith placed on record his appreciation to all those people involved in dealing with the incident. Early on Monday 31 October 2005 TransGrid's #2 transformer caught fire at the organisation's Murrumburrah 132kV Substation. Officers from the New South Wales Fire Brigade and the Rural Fire Service attended the site and brought the flames under control and extinguished the fire. TransGrid would like to extend its thanks to Fire Captains Stephen McGuiness and Steve Davis and fire officers from Harden, Young, Yass, Cootamundra, Goulburn, Temora, Boorowa, Gundagai, and Jugiong who demonstrated a high level of professionalism during the incident. TransGrid would also like to thank the efforts of its own staff involved in the response and management of this incident. " Everyone involved should be very proud of their efforts" Mr Smith said. "Whilst there was no loss of supply as a result of the incident there may have been some inconvenience to the local community and township as crews worked hard to repair and replace the damaged equipment" Mr Smith said. Safety and the continued reliable transmission of electricity were our immediate priorities in bringing the situation under control. "Dealing with the consequences, including the ongoing protection of the local environment and organising the rebuilding of the damaged section not only relied on the protection system in place but also the skill and dedication of those involved to minimise any impacts" said Mr Smith. "Should any person wish to contact TranGrid in relation to the incident I would be happy to take the call" Mr Smith said. TransGrid's Wagga Regional Office telephone number is 622 69 600.
