TransGrid Board Appoints New Chief Executive

TransGrid Chairman, Mr Philip Higginson today announced the appointment of Mr Kevin Murray as the company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer following an exhaustive search process. Mr Murray has been acting Chief Executive since 14th March 2005.
TransGrid is the owner and operator of the high voltage network in NSW and is responsible for transporting bulk power between power generators and electricity distributors. With assets valued at $3.3 billion and an income of $460 million, TransGrid is a major infrastructure owner and a central element in the national electricity market.
Mr Higginson congratulated Mr Murray on his appointment and was confident that this appointment would ensure that TransGrid is able to continue its commitment to network performance and to deliver on its recently approved $1.2 billion capital works program.
Mr Higginson said, "that he was pleased that the Company was able to appoint someone to the position that had the experience and depth of knowledge necessary to manage a large electricity infrastructure business.
The Board is confident that Kevin will be able to provide the leadership necessary to enable TransGrid to continue to provide the high levels of reliability and safety for which TransGrid is internationally recognised."
Mr Murray said that was extremely proud to be appointed to this position and that he was looking forward to be able to continue to build on the excellent service that TransGrid has provided to its customers and the community.
Mr Murray has carried out the role of General Manager/Network since TransGrid's inception in 1995. Mr Murray has spent 37 years in the transmission business since commencing with the Electricity Commission of NSW as a cadet Engineer and has had extensive experience in managing TransGrid's extensive infrastructure.
Mr Murray is a member of the NSW Energy and Water Ombudsman Board and has a strong commitment to safety as evidenced by his involvement in industry associations and as the chair of TransGrid's Executive Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
