Key Environmental Programs at TransGrid for 2006/07

TransGrid has three broad environmental programs for the 2006/07 period to achieve compliance with our Environment Policy. These programs cover:

  • Continuing to comply with relevant environmental legislation, industry standards and codes of practice;
  • Environmental Performance Initiatives programs
  • Compliance with ISO 14001


For each of these programs, action plans have been prepared. Below are some of the actions that will be undertaken in the 2006/07 period to ensure these programs are compliant.

Legislative Compliance

  • Undertake environmental audits as scheduled in the environmental audit compliance strategy
  • Develop management plans for high risk sites (from site based risk assessment program)
  • Undertake contaminated land investigations as required
  • Incorporate legislative changes into training modules as required
  • Implement WRAPP strategies
  • Participate in environmental component of esaa Code of Sustainable Practice Audit
  • Provide legislative updates to staff as required
  • Incorporate legislative changes into training modules as required
  • Attend environmental conferences, seminars, networks, etc to stay abreast of relevant legislative changes


Environmental Performance Initiatives

  • Undertake the Chairman's Environmental Award for employees for 2006/2007
  • Develop relationships through sponsorships and donations that provide value to TransGrid
  • Earthwatch Environmental research sponsorship
  • Green Globe "Energy and Water Efficiency" Awards sponsorship
  • Sponsorship of GreenGrid
  • Finalise and publish an Environmental Rules Participants Training handbook
  • Develop and implement a hazardous waste tracking system across the organisation
  • Develop and implement an environmental awareness poster campaign
  • Develop systems for capturing environmental metrics as part of TransGrid's CSR project
  • Undertake Energy Use Audits at key metered sites
  • Provide ongoing site based risk assessments and assist business units to reduce identified risks
  • Implement any actions arising from site based risk assessments assigned to the corporate environment group
  • Update site based risk assessment database to capture changes associated substation improvements
  • Provide advice and support to business units regarding the development of Environmental management plans and operational controls

  • Undertake the annual environmental aspect identification and assessment workshop and develop a Significant Aspect Register
  • SAI Global Surveillance Audit

  • Government Energy Management Policy Annual Report
  • Greenhouse Challenge Plus Report
  • Refresher training for the environmental rules for easement staff and contractors
  • Review Environmental Rules content/training material for 2007 round of premises training
