TransGrid Publishes Application Notice for Supply to the Macarthur Area

15 December 2006

Limitations in the capacity of the transmission and distribution network supplying the Macarthur area in Sydney are expected to emerge by 2009/10. In addition planned releases of new residential lots in the South West Sector development area are expected to result in significant increases in demand in this area over the coming years.

TransGrid and Integral Energy are proposing the construction of a new large transmission network asset and new large distribution network asset to increase the capacity of the networks supplying these areas. In accordance with clause 5.6.6(c) of the National Electricity Rules an application notice has been prepared that applies the AER's regulatory test to a range of reasonable options to meet this requirement.

The preferred actions are that:

  • TransGrid constructs a new 330/132/66 kV substation in the Macarthur area to connect to the existing Kemps Creek - Avon 330 kV line;
  • Integral Energy replaces two existing 66 kV circuits by two high capacity 132 kV circuits to supply Nepean 132/66/33 kV Substation from Macarthur substation; and
  • Integral Energy constructs new 66 kV connections from Macarthur substation to Campbelltown and an additional 66kV feeder to Ambarvale.

These works estimated to cost $70 million (+/-25%) and are expected to be completed by summer 2009/10.

TransGrid and Integral Energy invite submissions on the application notice from interested parties. The closing date for submissions is 1st February 2007.
