16 March 2007

The Wagga area includes the local government areas of Wagga Wagga and Lockhart and parts of the Junee, Coolamon, Gundagai and Greater Hume local government areas. It has a population of around 70,000.

TransGrid and Country Energy are proposing the construction of a new large transmission network asset to increase the capacity of the transmission network supplying the area. In accordance with clause 5.6.6(h) of the National Electricity Rules a final report has been prepared that applies the AER?s regulatory test to a range of reasonable options to meet this requirement.

The proposed actions are that:

  • TransGrid constructs Wagga North 132/66 kV substation by summer 2009/10. These works are estimated to cost $21 million (+/-25%);
  • Country Energy proceeds with the planned rearrangements of its 66 kV network utilising Wagga North 132/66 kV substation as a 66 kV source of supply; and
  • Country Energy constructs a 66 kV feeder to supply its Holbrook, Henty, Culcairn and Uranquinty substations from Wagga 132/66 kV substation to meet reliability of supply requirements for those sites. These works are estimated to cost around $2?million.
