TransGrid Publishes Application Notice: Sydney South No 3 and No 4 330/132 kV Transformer Replacements (2 May 2007)
2 May 2007
Sydney South 330/132 kV Substation is one of a ring of 330 kV substations that individually provide supply to nearby suburban areas in Sydney and collectively provide supply to the Sydney CBD and surrounding suburbs.
TransGrid is proposing the construction of a new large transmission network asset to increase the transformer capacity at Sydney South. The proposal is for the replacement of the existing 250 MVA transformers # 3 and # 4 at Sydney South by new 375 MVA units. The existing transformers are more than 35 years old and would be scrapped. Related works include the provision of facilities to connect the new # 4 transformer to the 132 kV busbar in emergencies and 132 kV feeder rearrangements at Sydney South.
The cost of these works is $16.2 million (? 25%). They are currently envisaged to be completed prior to summer 2009/10.
TransGrid invites submissions on the application notice from interested parties. The closing date for submissions is 14th June 2007.
