TransGrid Commences Community Consultation

4 March 2008

TransGrid is proposing to construct a new 132,000 volt transmission line between substations at Parkes and Manildra, which is necessary in order to meet the energy needs of the Central Slopes and Plains regions.

"This project is a demonstration of our commitment to improving the quality and reliability of power supply for customers in the Cowra, Forbes, Parkes and Manildra areas", said Michael de Rome, the Senior Project Manager for the new transmission line.

The transmission line will meet Increasing power demands in the region, directly benefiting residents and businesses in Parkes, Manildra, Forbes and Cowra areas. Social, environmental, technical and economic factors are all considered in determining the best way to meet community needs.

Preliminary work by TransGrid has identified three route options for the transmission line, which will run between the two pre-existing substations. Built-up areas, National Parks and air strips are a few examples of what the planners have to avoid when selecting the route.

"TransGrid will tap into the community's local knowledge", said Mr de Rome.

"We're also keen to find out what features of the project are of particular interest to people from the Central Slopes and Plains," he said.

The outcomes and recommendations gathered from the consultation sessions will be reviewed by TransGrid to ensure all perspectives and facts have been taken into account.

More information on the project is available by calling 1800 851 299.
