Undergraduate Work Experience Program
General Information
TransGrid offers undergraduate students the opportunity to gain experience in a range of areas within the disciplines of:
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Accounting ( find out more)
Work Experience placements are generally offered over the various University vacation periods or may be arranged for longer periods up to six months if agreed.
The number and location of positions available for work experience varies each year depending on business requirements. However please note however that the majority of available placements are for Electrical Engineering undergraduates.
Applicants are expected to display a high level of academic skill in a relevant degree as well as capabilities in the areas of teamwork, communication and leadership.
Placements may be in any of TransGrid's seven Business Units and may be offered at any of TransGrid's main locations including Sydney CBD, Sydney-West (Wallgrove), Newcastle, Yass and Wagga Wagga .
Work Experience students receive an allowance from TransGrid to cover travel and work-related expenses during their work experience period. The amount of allowance is based upon academic year and experience.
Applicants must have a current driver's license.
Preference is given to those students in their final or penultimate year.
How to apply for Undergraduate Work Experience
Undergraduates in Engineering - Electrical or Civil
Applicants are required to be undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering in either
- Electrical engineering - Power Options preferred
- Civil/Structural Engineering
Undergraduates in Accounting
Applicants are required to be undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or other relevant accounting related degree.
- Preference will be given to Applicants currently completing their penultimate year or final year
- Placements may be available at the following locations - Sydney CBD, Sydney West (Wallgrove), Newcastle and Yass.
- Applicants will be required to provide a copy of their Academic Result

School Students Work Experience Program
TransGrid's work experience program offers year 10 and 11 school students the opportunity to gain experience a range of areas within the disciplines of Electrical Engineering, Environmental Management, Accounting and Human Resources.
The work experience program gives school students the opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of possible career paths.
Work experience is voluntary and unpaid and students usually spend a block of one or two weeks within one of TransGrid's seven Business Units, gaining an appreciation of working life.
Requirements
Work experience students are required to provide TransGrid with a copy of school insurance details and a Record of Student Placement.
