TransGrid

GreenGrid has been 'Bringing Life to Landscapes, Bringing Landscapes to Life' since 1997.

GreenGrid is a partnership between TransGrid and Greening Australia. Originating in the southern region of NSW, GreenGrid has since grown into a large scale program, encompassing the Southern Tablelands, Southern Highlands, Central West and Sydney Region. GreenGrid has recently expanded into Northern NSW in the Hunter Valley and Mid North Coast.

GreenGrid has made tangible improvements to land, biodiversity, river health and sustainable production over a period of 13 years, achieving the partnership's three main objectives:

  • Address biodiversity, water quality and sustainability issues through targeted on-ground action;
  • Bring together TransGrid staff and the community to grow and plant native vegetation; and
  • Improve understanding and practice of natural resource management.

GreenGrid Achievements

The GreenGrid partnership has engaged more than 380 landholders and several thousand community volunteers who have collectively:

  • Erected 399 kilometres of fencing;
  • Planted 230,000 tube stock; and
  • Directly seeded 1,933 kilometres of tree line.

    In the course of 258 community events, 3,500 volunteers have contributed 25,152 hours to propagating and collecting seed, planting tubestock and maintaining sites. This is a major contribution to the community and environment, developed over many years.

    The multiple benefits to land and biodiversity have been great together with the carbon offsets. It is estimated that from 2003 to 2007, GreenGrid has reduced carbon by 16,000 tonnes.

    GreenGrid has become a widely-recognised and award winning partnership, having won the Prime Minister's Award, a Landcare Award and a Banksia Award for its work in the Boorowa Rivery Recovery Program. GreenGrid has been named a finalist in the prestigious Banksia Environment Foundation awards several times, as well as the United Nation's national awards program.

The future of GreenGrid will continue to build on past achievements while also broadening the focus of the partnership to offset our ecological and carbon footprints across the whole business.
