TransGrid has met with members of the Tenterfield, Drake and Casino communities over the last three days to discuss the study areas for their $227 million Far North NSW Transmission Line Project.

A number of TransGrid staff and environmental consultants were on hand at the Mingoola Hall, Tenterfield RSL Pavillion, Drake Community Hall and Casino Civic Hall for four hour community information sessions to discuss the project, study areas and the preferred route selection process in detail with community members.

“Hearing the community’s local knowledge on the potential constraints and route selection issues in the Tenterfield region over the last two days has proved extremely constructive and helpful,” said TransGrid’s Project Manager, Denis Novakovic.

“The feedback we received will be used to assist in determining a preferred corridor for the transmission line between our Dumaresq Substation and the existing easement which runs between Tenterfield and Lismore”, said Mr Novakovic.

“We are confident that with the community’s ongoing input, the preferred corridor to be selected will be the best balance between social, environmental and economic factors,” said Mr Novakovic.

“We found we were able to address many community members’ genuine concerns through open and frank discussions,” he said.

“We will continue to work closely with all members of the Tenterfield community throughout both initial and future stages of the project.”

“TransGrid is committed to understanding the concerns of the entire community and we are pleased that a number of meetings with individual community members were scheduled as a result of the information sessions over the past few days.”

“We have listened and will continue to listen to the options proposed by the community. We encourage those community members who have not had the opportunity to attend the information sessions to come along to further sessions in Tenterfield which will occur again next week.”

TransGrid will be holding additional community information sessions in Tenterfield to answer questions and provide further information:
