TransGrid, the NSW electricity transmission network operator, delivered a new transformer to Vineyard Substation this morning as part of a $17 million investment to increase the reliability of electricity supply in the region.

The new transformer was delivered to the Vineyard Substation using five prime movers, weighed approximately 180 tonnes and was accompanied by pilot vehicles and police escorts.

The new transformer will assist in providing a reliable electricity supply to customers in Sydney’s expanding North West region.

The delivery of the new transformer is an important milestone for the upgrade, the new state-of-the-art transformer will boost the reliability of electricity supply to local distribution networks.

After the new transformer’s installation, the Vineyard Substation will have the capacity to reliably supply the equivalent of around half a million average homes.

The transformer arrived at Newcastle Port on Thursday from Toshiba where it was stored over the long weekend.

Unloading operations will take approximately two days and are expected to be completed by the end of the week.
