TransGrid, the NSW transmission network operator, has announced the completion of a multi-million dollar upgrade to its Beryl Substation near Gulgong.
Manager of Projects at TransGrid Ian Davidson said “The upgrade of Beryl substation, a major supply point for power to the Central Tablelands, will increase the reliability of electricity supply in the region.”
“Demand for power is steadily increasing in the region because of population growth and the local mines, so this is a timely and essential investment for the future security of the electricity supplies in the Mudgee and Gulgong area,” said Mr Davidson.
The Beryl Substation upgrade provides an essential power link for the NSW Central Tablelands, connecting Wellington and Mount Piper transmission lines.
“The $3 million dollar works involve the installation of new high voltage equipment and modern control and protection systems at the TransGrid substation," said Mr Davidson.
The Beryl Substation upgrade is one of 88 projects being undertaken across NSW, as part of a $2.6 billion investment by TransGrid into the state’s electricity network over the next five years.
Mr Davidson said “By upgrading the Beryl Substation, TransGrid is helping to ensure residents and businesses in the Central Tablelands continue to enjoy high standards of electricity reliability, both now and into the future."
