A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for TransGrid’s Western Sydney Supply Project has been placed on public display.
TransGrid Corporate Affairs Manager, Ms Katy Hannouch said the release of the REF report for the transmission line component of the Project was a major milestone to secure Sydney’s power supply into the future.
“TransGrid’s Western Sydney Supply Project is an important investment to secure a long-term electricity supply for the inner metropolitan areas of Sydney,” said Ms Hannouch.
“According to forecasts by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, Sydney’s population is expected to increase by 1.1 million in the next 25 years, resulting in an additional 640,000 homes and over 6.8 million square metres of commercial space,” she said.
The Review is the result of detailed environmental studies covering project factors such as land use, noise, hours of work, traffic and access, flood levels, flora and fauna, cultural heritage, visual amenity and landscape, geology and soils.
This environmental study was completed by an expert team of environmental planners and specialists at International Environmental Consultants Pty Ltd.
“Over the next four weeks, we encourage members of the community to review the report,” said Ms. Hannouch.
“TransGrid staff will also be available to answer questions via the Project’s toll-free hotline, 1800 222 537.”
