TransGrid will seek feedback from the community on two additional study areas to assist in selecting a preferred route for their proposed Far North NSW transmission line project.

The additional areas are north of Tenterfield. The first is located around the Mole River district and second extends further north of Tenterfield, towards the Tenterfield Creek Valley, before continuing east towards Black Swamp.

“Results from preliminary environmental studies and aerial surveys undertaken by TransGrid, as well as general feedback from the community consultation to date has been extremely useful to TransGrid staff in the ongoing route selection process,” said Denis Novakovic, Project Manager at TransGrid.

“At the community meeting in early June, TransGrid made a commitment to the Tenterfield community to research any other feasible alternatives to the current study area, in which a preferred route could be located,” said Mr Novakovic.

“We have been working hard since that meeting to deliver on our commitment, and a number of other options have been identified,” he said.

“We also considered an option to the south of Tenterfield, which we consider not to be feasible.”

“The options will be on display until the end of August and TransGrid will make a decision on a preferred route after it considers the additional community input it receives. The objective is to select a route for the transmission line which best balances the social, environmental and economic factors.”

“We are looking forward to discussing the study areas with the Tenterfield community this next week as part of our ongoing consultation process.”

TransGrid will be holding community consultation sessions over the coming fortnight. Community members who wish to discuss the project and/or are unable to attend the community information sessions are encouraged to contact the TransGrid’s Project hotline on 1800 222 537.
