TransGrid

TransGrid, the NSW transmission line operator, has commenced environmental studies for their planned transmission line upgrade between Tomago and Stroud.

“TransGrid has now commenced the first stages of a Review of Environmental Factors, as part of our environmental studies required for our upgrade to the transmission network in the area,” said Ian Goldsworthy, Project Manager at TransGrid.

“TransGrid’s Tomago to Stroud Project is a $50 million investment by TransGrid to secure power supply in the Lower Mid-North Coast of NSW,” said Mr Goldsworthy.

“The Review of Environmental Factors is an important step in the project and we will be consulting with landowners and the local community as part of the detailed studies to gain their feedback on the proposal,” he said.

TransGrid’s plans include the construction of 6km of new transmission lines between Tomago and Tarro, and the replacement of 65km of existing wood pole power line between Tarro and Stroud Road with a higher capacity concrete pole power line.

“Peak demand in the Lower Mid-North Coast region is forecast to increase by as much as 35% over the next 10 years,” said Mr Goldsworthy.

“The upgrade will provide a more reliable power supply to customers in the area. The new line will also supply electricity to EnergyAustralia’s planned new substation at Brandy Hill, as well as the existing Country Energy Substation at Stroud Road,” he said.

TransGrid has selected the environmental consultants LandPartners to undertake the Review of Environmental Factors, which is due to be publicly exhibited in late 2010.

Members of the community who wish to speak to a member of the project team should contact the Tomago to Stroud Project Enquiry Officer on 1800 222 537.
