TransGrid and EnergyAustralia have published an Application Notice for the proposed development of new transmission network infrastructure in the Sydney CBD.
The purpose of the Application Notice is to consult with NEM registered participants, AEMO and interested parties on the preferred option for the development of electricity supply to Sydney CBD and inner metropolitan area.
Joint planning between TransGrid and EnergyAustralia has identified the need to reinforce cables supplying the Sydney CBD and inner metropolitan area prior to summer of 2011/12 and 2012/13, to ensure the network has the capacity to maintain current levels of reliability.
The proposal has components as follows:
Works to be completed by summer 2011/12
- EnergyAustralia to install a second 132 kV cable between TransGrid’s Beaconsfield West Substation and EnergyAustralia’s Green Square Zone Substation.
Works to be completed by summer 2012/13
- EnergyAustralia to install a 700m 132 kV cable between TransGrid’s Beaconsfield West Substation and Sydney Park
- TransGrid to construct a new 3.5 km 330 kV (operated at 132 kV) cable from Haymarket Substation to Sydney Park in an existing cable tunnel
- 132 kV cable connections at Haymarket and Beaconsfield West Substations.
The closing date for submissions is 10th September 2010.
