TransGrid

TransGrid is constructing a new transmission line between Manildra and Parkes. The $30 million project is necessary to ensure high levels of reliability to ensure that customers in the Central Slopes and Plains region continue to enjoy a reliable electricity supply.

TransGrid has appointed contractor Downer EDI to construct 81 kilometres of transmission line from the Manildra substation to Parkes substation.

During the corridor selection process, a preferred corridor of 1-2 kilometres in width was identified that provided the best social, environmental, technical and economic option available for the routing of the proposed power line and poles.

Additional environmental studies were also carried out and consultation with landholders were undertaken, before an alignment within a 45 metre wide easement was identified for further engineering and environmental studies. In developing this alignment, all affected landholders were individually consulted during the detailed design and environmental studies of the route.

Along with our environmental consultants URS, we would like to thank all landholders, community members and interest groups who have attended the public information sessions, met with us and provided valuable feedback to the team since the project was first announced. The results of the studies were detailed in two Environmental Assessment documents: a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and a Species Impact Statement (SIS). Both of these documents, in addition to a Summary Document, are provided below.

These documents were on public exhibition between 29 July and 27 August 2009. The aim of the exhibition was to give the community an opportunity to review the document and provide final comments on the proposal. Key issues raised in these submissions have been considered by TransGrid and the project has been approved under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (NSW).
