The Orange North Redevelopment Project is one of TransGrid's biggest investments in the Central West region. The project will increase the security of power supply in Orange City and the greater region.
What is the project?
The Orange Substation is now over 50 years old and the substation site is too small to complete all the upgrades needed. A new switching station is being built as part of a larger redevelopment project for the region’s power supply.
The project involves three parts:
- Building the new switching station on Leeds Parade;
- Rearranging the transmission lines to connect the switching station to the existing network; and
- Upgrade works at the existing Orange Substation on William Street.
The switching station is due for completion early 2012, while the associated transmission line works are due for completion mid 2012. The substation upgrade is expected to be finished by mid 2013.
A milestone already reached in the Orange North Redevelopment Project is the upgrade of the Orange Substation late 2010 which involved the installation of two new power transformers.
