During March 2008, TransGrid commenced construction on the Yass to Wagga 132kV transmission line reconstruction project to modernise the existing transmission line as it reached the end of its serviceable life.
The project includes dismantling the existing wooden pole line and constructing a new line using single concrete poles. This line is approximately 150km long.
TransGrid actively consulted with affected property owners on the methods of rebuilding the line. A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) was undertaken and because the rebuild of the line is along the existing alignment, no new enironmental impacts were introduced.
Construction of the new line is expected to be completed by early 2010. The estimated cost of the project is $27 million.
