The Far North NSW Transmission Line Project will help maintain a safe and reliable electricity supply for communities across Far North NSW.
The Project is required to meet peak summer electricity demand in the region, which reached record highs in 2009.
The proposal includes the construction of a 330 kV transmission line between the existing Dumaresq Switching Station, near Bonshaw, and Lismore Substation.
An extensive Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Project has been undertaken and was placed on public exhibition until 24 October 2011. The document includes detailed cultural heritage, flora and fauna studies, and a range of mitigation measures to help reduce the Project’s environmental footprint.
A Submissions Report is currently being prepared to respond to all submissions received during the EA public exhibition period. Once the report is complete, it will be made available on the Department of Planning and Investment website, and the Project will be submitted to the Minister for Planning for consideration.
TransGrid has independently elected to conduct a Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) following the conclusion of the environmental approval process.
Pending Project approval, construction is expected to begin in mid 2013 and be completed in 2015.
