TransGrid has proposed the Stroud to Lansdowne Project to help secure a reliable electricity supply to the NSW Mid North Coast, which has been identified as one of the fastest growing areas in NSW.
The region's population is expected to increase by more than 30,000 people in the next decade, with peak summer demand expected to rise up to 25%.
While the existing transmission system currently meets the energy needs of the Mid North Coast, a new transmission line between Stroud and Lansdowne is needed in the longer term to safeguard the region’s electricity supply against the forecast increase in energy demand.
The Project would involve:
- The construction of a new 330 kV substation at Lansdowne; and
- The construction of a single-circuit 330 kV transmission line between the substation at Lansdowne and Essential Energy’s Stroud Substation.

Options Selection Report
A draft Options Selection Report (OSR) has been developed by environmental consultant AECOM, identifying a series of corridor options for the new power line and potential sites for the proposed substation. The OSR is based on preliminary environmental constraints analysis.
The draft OSR was placed on public exhibition for four weeks from 27 February 2012. Following community feedback, the exhibition period was extended by an additional four weeks to 5.00pm on 20 April 2012.
All submissions, including feedback forms, received during this time will be considered in the finalisation of the OSR and selection of a preferred corridor and substation site.
A decision on a preferred corridor is expected to be announced around mid-year.
Community Working Group
A Community Working Group (CWG) has been established for the Project to assist TransGrid in assessing a series of corridor options for the new power line.
The role of the group is to collect and disseminate information with stakeholders and the wider community, and to work with TransGrid to identify key environmental, social and cultural issues associated with each corridor option.
The CWG is a well-balanced group of representatives from communities across the Project area. It is important to note the CWG is a consultative group and is not a decision-making body. Decision-making powers are retained by TransGrid.
The first CWG meeting was held on Saturday 25 February and was facilitated by environmental consultant AECOM. The second and final CWG meeting was held on Saturday 24 March.
Minutes from these meetings are available below.
