TransGrid

At TransGrid we are committed to a goal of zero injuries, occupational illnesses and incidents.

We believe that all accidents are preventable on and off the job. This commitment will be achieved by honouring the following principles:

  • Safety is our first priority;
  • We will not budget for injuries;
  • Working safely is a condition of employment;
  • No shortcuts when it comes to safety;
  • Management and Team Leaders demonstrate leadership in Health and Safety; and
  • Employees and contractors take ownership of safety by not accepting unsafe behaviour from anyone.

TransGrid's commitment to health and safety is driven by our Health and Safety Plan 2011/12 and our Health and Safety Policy.

Health & Safety in TransGrid

Everyone who works with TransGrid is entitled to a healthy and safe workplace and all who do business with us are also entitled to expect healthy and safe surroundings and services.

So, as the health and safety of everyone is our first priority, we:

  • Make health and safety an integral part of the duties of everyone in TransGrid, including contractors;
  • Develop our work procedures and training requirements co-operatively so that risks can be identified and managed effectively;
  • Expect everyone in TransGrid to know and comply with our agreed Health and Safety System and programs;
  • Change any work procedures or task requirements that threaten health or safety and learn from any mistakes;
  • Regularly review our work procedures and training programs to ensure they are consistent with best practice for health and safety;
  • Continually look for, encourage and recognise better work practices in the interest of health and safety; and
  • Have established health and safety committees to represent all employees of TransGrid to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained.

Public Electrical Safety Awareness

TransGrid has developed a Public Electrical Safety Awareness (PESA) Plan in accordance with the requirements of the Electricity Supply (Safety and Network Management) Regulation 2008 to outline the management of our network assets in relation to public safety.

The objective of TransGrid's PESA Plan is to make the public aware of the hazards associated with electricity, in particular high voltage transmission lines and substations owned and/or operated by TransGrid.

TransGrid's PESA Plan can be viewed in chapter three of our Network Management Plan 2009-14.
