Capital Expenditure Workshop

On the 26th of October, 2016, TransGrid hosted a Capital Expenditure Workshop with its Advisory Council, Revenue Proposal Working Group and invited the Australian Energy Regulator as an observer.

The first of its kind, the Capital Expenditure Workshop sought to detail how TransGrid approaches its forecasting for capital expenditure.

The workshop was facilitated by Tony Meehan, Executive General Manager, Business Growth and Revenue and was supported by a number of executive management and in-house industry experts who provided a detailed overview about:
  • The company’s forecasting approach
  • Why it replaces network infrastructure
  • What the company has been working on to date highlighting the business’s priorities and direction.
Key themes and takeaways from the day included:
  • The consumer’s increasing appetite to understand how TransGrid can facilitate non-network solutions in the transmission network
  • Renewable power generation
  • The importance of policy and regulation for the network
  • The role of interconnection between states
  • The importance of asset management with respect to maintaining network reliability and safety
  • The timing structure for the revenue reset
  • Detailed explanation of the methodology which underlines the capital expenditure forecast.
Feedback following the workshop has been positive, with a number of participants indicating their interest in attending similar workshops in the future. The workshop forms part of TransGrid’s engagement strategy to build a stronger, more robust engagement program that actively provides a dedicated vehicle for ongoing engagement between TransGrid and its stakeholders.
