Powering Sydney's Future moves to detailed design

The Powering Sydney’s Future project to secure the supply of electricity to Sydney’s CBD and surrounding suburbs has moved into the detailed design phase, following the engagement of global cable solutions provider Taihan.
TransGrid will work with Taihan and its civil partner Garde Services on the underground installation of a 330kv cable along the 20km project route from Potts Hill to Alexandria.

Project Director Evonne Bennett said Taihan would be responsible for cable supply, system design, jointing, testing and commissioning.
“TransGrid is pleased to involve Taihan and its partner Garde Services in this major energy project and we look forward to working together over the next two years,” Ms Bennett said.

“Taihan is a trusted provider of cables and we are confident they will help deliver a safe and secure project for TransGrid and for our customers,” she said.

The Powering Sydney’s Future project will reinforce the supply to business and residents in the city and neighbouring communities and will be completed by 2023. The project will also include upgrades to substations at Potts Hill, Alexandria and Picnic Point.

The project team is currently focused on preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Submissions Report, due for submission to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) by January 24, 2020.

TransGrid received 21 submissions during the public exhibition period and the majority of issues related to enquiries about traffic and access, noise impacts, tree preservation and impacts on utilities and services.

“We thank everyone who participated in the EIS process and we will provide a full response to the matters raised by the public, councils, government agencies, community groups and others to the Department this month.

“TransGrid will continue community and stakeholder consultation to ensure that everyone is informed about the project. There will be opportunities to provide feedback to TransGrid during the upcoming detailed design phase,” said Evonne.
