TransGrid Advisory Council meeting 15 June 2017

The second TransGrid Advisory Council (TAC) meeting for 2017 was held in June at TransGrid’s Sydney West Bulk Supply Point. The agenda focussed on discussion of the newly released Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market (Finkel Review), and a presentation to the TAC on TransGrid’s proposed development and connection of ‘Renewable Zones’ within NSW. The agenda also included the opportunity for TAC members to inspect the Sydney West substation and control room, and to view the annual Black Start training being held at the substation, which simulates a NSW-wide system blackout. The TAC discussed the below points:

  • The newly released Finkel Review and members reactions to the recommendations. TAC members expressed a desire for TransGrid to play an active role in transmission planning on a national level.
  • TransGrid consulted with the TAC on its plans for the development of Renewable Zones in NSW to support recommendations in Finkel’s Chapter 5 and the transition to a renewable future. TAC members tasked TransGrid with further research regarding TransGrid's committed to deliver in the next TAC meeting.
  • Update on the Powering Sydney’s future demand management procurement process.
