Leadership wins TransGrid White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation

12/10/2017

TransGrid has achieved official accreditation as a White Ribbon Workplace, recognising its industry leadership on gender equity and zero tolerance of violence against women.

CEO Paul Italiano said TransGrid is committed to taking action to create positive change for women in the energy industry and in the wider NSW community.

“TransGrid is building an inclusive workplace by strengthening gender equality and giving our people the skills and knowledge to address abuse and violence against women,” Mr Italiano said.

“We believe men should be champions for the equality, safety and respect of their female colleagues, family and friends.”

White Ribbon Australia CEO, Libby Davies said TransGrid is leading the way on gender parity issues in the energy sector.

“TransGrid stands as a leader in its commitment to driving gender equality in an industry that’s often heavily male-dominated, and ensuring that there is a culture of respect, and a culture that does not tolerate violence against women,” said Ms Davies.

“TransGrid has been actively committed to accreditation over the past 18 months, and has achieved recognition for ‘outstanding achievement’ in the Leadership and Commitment aspect of the program.”

Mr Italiano said he was proud to accept White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation from Ms Davies on behalf of TransGrid at an event in Sydney this week.

“As an employer, we have an ethical responsibility to take leadership actions on the issue of domestic violence: both to raise awareness and improve understanding; and to support employees who may be experiencing domestic violence.”

“Our journey to White Ribbon Accreditation is not only a testament to our goal of leadership, it reflects a great deal of hard work within the organisation,” Mr Italiano said.

“In addition to involving our staff, we have also engaged customers and key stakeholders, and spoken publicly about the vital importance of equality, safety and respect for women.”
