The Sydney North Substation located in Dural off Old North Road was commissioned in 1963 and is one of a number of key substations located in the Sydney Metropolitan area.
The substation is a bulk supply point
for both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy who supply electricity to homes
and businesses in the area. The secondary systems that help to manage
the flow of electricity within the substation have been identified as
coming to the end of their serviceable life and require replacement.
replacement of the secondary systems will ensure a reliable supply of
electricity to the Sydney Metropolitan Area into the future; and ensure
that the substation is maintained to a safe and serviceable condition.
This project will also meet compliance requirements with the National
Electricity Rules and the Australian Energy Market Operator's standard
for Power Systems Data Communications.
The work will include a range of
small scale construction activities including removal of old equipment,
digging trenches, laying foundations and installing new equipment
including new monitoring systems.
A Review of Environmental
Factors has been completed for this project and all work has been
designed so that it does not compromise the ecological diversity of the
area nor have significant detrimental impacts on the surrounding area.
Civil construction work is expected
to occur intermittently between April 2015 and March 2016, and again
between September 2017 and October 2018. This project is expected to be
completed in 2018.
All work will take place within the confines
of the substation and working hours will be in accordance with the
Interim Construction Noise Guidelines typically between 7am and 6pm
Monday to Friday and 8am – 1pm Saturday.
