Vales Point Secondary Replacement Program

TransGrid is proposing to replace the secondary systems and the 330kV/132kV switchyards at the Vales Point substation due to the age and condition of the existing equipment.

TransGrid's Vales Point 330kV substation, located adjacent to the Vales Point Power Station, connects the power staton to the electricity supply grid and supplies Ausgrid's local electricity loads.

  • What is involved?

The project will involve a staged in-situ rebuild of the 330kV and 132kV switchyards and includes replacing some substation equipment, and associated infrastructure improvements.

  • Why is the project needed?

While the substation has been a stable and strong part of the region's electricity network, some of the equipment is approaching the end of its servicable life, and needs upgrading and replacing.

  • When will the project start and finish?

Work at the substation is expected to commence in July 2016 with completion scheduled for mid-2018.

  • What will be the construction hours?

Noise generating works would be limited to the recommended standard hours for construction work outlined in the Interim Construction Noise Guideline (DECC, 2009) which are:

    • Monday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00pm
    • Saturday 8:00am to 1:00pm
    • No works on Sundays or Public Holidays
