The existing transmission line (Line 97K) is around 60 years old and runs between TransGrid's Cooma and Munyang Substations providing the main supply to the snowfields.

  • Why is TransGrid undertaking this work?

The conductor and structures of 97K are about 60 years old.  We need to remediate this line as low spans can pose a safety and reliability issue.

  • What does the project involve?

We are beginning early planning works for remediation and possible replacement works along the existing Cooma-Munyang transmission line. We will also be looking at the possibility of raising the height of some sections of the existing line.

TransGrid's scope of the work includes:

    • Remediation of approximately 115 low spans including structure replacements, double circuit steel pole installation, dummy strain installation, re-tensioning and landscaping works
    • Approximately 10 kilometres (km) of existing access track upgrades along the transmission line easement
    • Straightening of approximately 21 existing wood poles
    • Approximately 100 gates repairs/replacements
    • Approximately 60km of fence repairs/replacements
    • Management of construction waste and site rehabilitation works.

  • What are the next steps?

We are still finalising our work for the planning process and site access requirements for this project.

It is anticipated that site mobilisation will begin mid 2016 with the project to be completed by December 2017.
