Canberra Communications Cable Project

TransGrid operates the main high voltage electricity transmission network in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

TransGrid is also a licensed telecommunications carrier and operates a large telecommunications network made up of microwave radio systems and optical fibre that covers over 2,000 kilometres.

The Canberra Communication Cable Project involved​ the installation of 29 kilometres of underground optical fibre cable through parts of Canberra. The project is classified as a low impact infrastructure (under the Telecommunication Act 1997), for which construction will take place on the public land.
