Who we are and what we do
At Transgrid, we are proud to stand at the forefront of Australia’s transition to clean energy. With a long legacy dating back to the 1950s, when we began as the Electricity Commission of NSW, we have evolved into a critical enabler of the nation’s energy future. Today, we transmit electricity from generators via 13,085 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations and switching stations throughout NSW and the ACT, connecting Australia’s three largest states along the eastern seaboard.
Our electricity network powers almost 9 million people, ensuring reliable, secure and affordable electricity. But we’re more than just a transmission network. Through our commercial arm, Lumea, we deliver tailored infrastructure and telecommunication solutions o meet the diverse and growing needs of our customers.

Through our commercial arm, Lumea, we deliver tailored infrastructure and telecommunication solutions to meet the diverse and growing needs of our customers.
At the heart of the National Energy Market, our network plays a pivotal role in energy trading between Queensland and Victoria and soon South Australia, enabling access to the most cost-efficient generation.
At the core of what we do is our vision to lead Australia’s transition to a cleaner, energy future. With an ambitious $16.5 billion investment over the next decade, we are building nation-critical renewable energy superhighways. These projects will create a resilient grid capable of operating at 100% instantaneous renewable energy, ensuring security and sustainability as coal generation phases out.
For us, it’s not just about infrastructure; it’s about meaningful partnerships with our people, our customers and communities and within the industry in which we operate. By working together, we’re creating a lasting legacy of clean, reliable, and affordable energy for generations to come.
