As Australia’s energy system transforms, so too must the workforce that supports it. The Transgrid Energy Training Hub has been designed to meet this challenge head-on.
Located in Wagga Wagga on Transgrid-owned land at Copland Street and Lake Albert Road, the Hub will provide a safe, controlled environment for specialised training in transmission tower construction and line stringing. It will support major projects like HumeLink and open long-term career pathways for regional communities. Its central Riverina location also ensures easy access for local trainees and industry partners.
Scheduled to open in early 2026, the Training Hub will have capacity to train over 3,500 people annually in licence and competency-based short courses, upskill and verify competency training for 200 internationally qualified tradespeople, and support more than 150 trade qualifications across varying certificate and diploma levels. It will play a vital role in building a skilled, future-ready workforce.
Key Features of the Wagga Energy Training Hub
The Training Hub will feature state-of-the-art facilities designed to provide the best possible training environment.

More than just a training facility
Transgrid is investing in our local workforce, boosting the regional economy, and ensuring that the benefits of the energy transition are shared with the communities that help deliver it.

The Employment, Skills and Supply Chains: Renewable Energy in NSW report estimates that employment in the electricity sector will require 14,000–22,000 workers over the next 15 years, with Transgrid alone forecasting 7,000 skilled jobs required for projects over the next decade.
Currently, there is a significant lack of public transmission training facilities in Australia, and no lines training facility in the Riverina region. As a result, foundational line training is often delivered in the field, creating inefficiencies, safety risks, and delays.
The Energy Training Hub will address these challenges by providing a controlled, purpose-built training environment in the Riverina, supporting HumeLink and other major projects. It is more than a training facility – it's a social legacy project.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Below is a list of frequently asked questions:
General FAQs
What are the construction impacts? Will it increase traffic or noise in the area?
Construction impacts will be minimal and managed in line with best practice standards. Some increase in traffic and noise may occur during peak construction periods such as delivery of modular building, but measures will be in place to reduce disruption. Any impacts will be communicated to near neighbours and businesses, in a timely manner.
Will there be any road closures or detours during construction?
No major road closures are expected. If temporary traffic changes are required, we will notify affected residents and businesses in advance.
Is the Training Hub a permanent structure? When will it be decommissioned?
The Hub is a permanent modular facility designed for flexibility. It is not intended that the building will be moved or decommissioned.
Will the Training Hub operate at night or on weekends? What are the operating hours?
No, operating hours will be from 8:30 am to 4:30 weekdays.
Who will benefit from the Training Hub?
For Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), delivery partners, and trade-qualified individuals, it provides access to a purpose-built facility designed for hands-on, competency-based training. This includes unique opportunities to work on an altered 220kV transmission tower allowing trainees to experience real-life conditions in a safe and controlled environment before stepping onto live sites.
The broader energy industry will benefit through improved workforce readiness, enabling faster onboarding and safer, more efficient delivery of major infrastructure projects such as HumeLink. By standardising competency verification and providing realistic training environments, the Training Hub helps reduce project delays and safety risks, ensuring Australia’s energy transition is delivered reliably and on time.
Local communities will also see economic and employment opportunities. The Hub will create roles in facility management, administration, and operational support services, while generating demand for local businesses such as catering providers, restaurants, accommodation, and transport services.
Regional suppliers and contractors will benefit from ongoing maintenance and landscaping work, and residents will gain new pathways into the energy infrastructure sector through training and certification programs. These opportunities will not only boost the local economy but also strengthen Wagga Wagga’s role as a key contributor to Australia’s clean energy future.
Will the Training Hub increase demand on local services like parking or public transport?
The Hub includes dedicated parking. We do not anticipate an impact on public transport and any future changes will communicate transparently.
How is this Training Hub different from existing facilities?
There are no training facilities available to other providers in NSW the facilities here will provide training across the energy sector in a regional location boosting regional workforce capabilities and access.
Can local residents book spaces at the Training Hub for their own personal use (e.g. training private business staff, team off-site days, etc.)?
The Wagga Energy Training Hub is a dedicated training delivery facility. Only Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) with the appropriate licences, insurances, and credentials to deliver accredited training are permitted to use the Training Hub. This ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and industry standards. The Hub is not available for activities outside of industrial training directly linked to the energy transition.
Can industry partners host non-training specific activities like events and workshops?
No. The Wagga Energy Training Hub is strictly for training activities delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that hold the appropriate licences, insurances, and credentials. Non-training activities such as events or workshops cannot be hosted at the Training Hub.
