Wallerawang, Lidsdale and Portland communities are invited to have their say on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Mount Piper to Wallerawang Transmission Line Upgrade Project, which will support NSW’s renewable energy transition.
01 September 2025
The Mount Piper to Wallerawang Transmission Line Upgrade Project comprises the construction and operation of 8km of new 330 kV transmission line between transmission substations at Mount Piper and Wallerawang.
The upgrade will support delivery of the NSW Government’s Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone, helping ensure that cleaner and more affordable energy can be securely supplied to NSW consumers via the high-voltage grid.
Executive General Manager of Delivery Jennifer Hughes said: “Transgrid would like to thank the local community for their help in identifying the preferred route, which uses an existing transmission line corridor and ensures the lowest possible impact on local residents, businesses and the environment.
“We have now prepared a detailed EIS to identify and assess the potential environmental, economic and social impacts of the project and outline how they will be addressed.
“I encourage all interested parties to review the documents and have their say in a submission to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI).”
The EIS includes 15 technical studies identifying potential impacts in areas such as heritage, biodiversity, land use, air quality, noise, traffic and transport and visual amenity.
To support the public exhibition of the Environmental Impact Statement, Transgrid is inviting the community to attend information sessions in Portland and Wallerawang between 11-16 September.
To view the Environmental Impact Statement and make a submission, visit the DPHI website and search SSI-70279722. Submissions are open until Wednesday 24 September.
