Community facilities in the Snowy Valleys and Wagga Wagga Local Government Areas will receive major upgrades from the nation-critical HumeLink project as part of Transgrid’s ongoing efforts to leave a lasting legacy in the region.

Recreation, tourist and childcare facilities are the winners under HumeLink’s Community Investment and Benefits Program, which is delivering social, economic and environmental benefits along the project corridor.
“Improved community facilities support connected regional communities and HumeLink is delighted to provide funding for four projects that will provide significant benefits to local residents, businesses, workers and visitors alike,” Transgrid General Manager for Community and Social Licence Michael Johnson said.
“Transgrid and our delivery partners are committed to maximising social and economic benefits from HumeLink to communities along the 365km project alignment.
“Upgrades to these important community facilities will leave a lasting legacy for the Adelong, Batlow, Tarcutta and Tumbarumba communities as we continue to deliver this nation-critical transmission infrastructure to realise Australia’s clean energy future.”
The four projects benefiting from the final round of funding under the HumeLink Community Investment and Benefits Program are:
- Tarcutta Recreational Grounds Infrastructure Improvement Plan: This multi-stage upgrade will transform the site into a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable community hub to host equestrian events, motorsports, community gatherings, and educational programs.
- Batlow Multi-Purpose Leisure Hub: Funding will improve the clubhouse, equipment, and landscape through revegetation and an arboretum to restore fire-damaged habitat.
- Adelong Golden Gully Caravan Park Accommodation: This upgrade responds to a critical shortage of visitor and worker accommodation following the 2019-2020 bushfires, which destroyed several homes in the area.
- Carcoola Children’s Centre at Tumbarumba: The project includes landscaping, resurfacing, and installation of age-appropriate, inclusive play equipment.
Snowy Valleys Mayor Julia Ham said the Council welcomed funding for the Carcoola Children’s Centre, with much-needed upgrades long overdue.
“This funding couldn’t be any more timely, with the centre celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and in that time, there has been no major redevelopment, so this is going to make an enormous impact,” Councillor Ham said.
“These funding outcomes have been very well received by the community, the way Transgrid has allocated the funding across the different towns. All the feedback I have received has been very positive.”
The Tarcutta Recreational Grounds Infrastructure Improvement Plan will bring significant benefits to the local community, according to Tarcutta Grounds Trust President Lexi Cesnik.
“So many of the users and clubs of this ground got behind this project. The ability to be able to apply for this funding has been the most phenomenal opportunity which will lead to increased tourism and business engagement, and we are super excited to roll out the infrastructure upgrade,” Ms Cesnik said.
“The upgrades mean we can facilitate bigger, better and more frequent community-led events, which means we can engage more meaningfully with our community and the users of the ground.”
Seventeen community organisations along the HumeLink project corridor were awarded funding from the Community Investment and Benefits Program in December 2025.
The HumeLink project will create up to 1,600 construction jobs and drive $6.3 billion of direct and indirect regional investment.
