Transgrid proud to support Wagga Mardi Gras Festival

06 March 2024

Transgrid is celebrating diversity and inclusion by supporting and participating in the Riverina’s annual celebration of the LGBTQI+ community.

Australia’s largest transmission business is once again a Silver Sponsor of the Wagga Mardi Gras, with Transgrid staff and vehicles to display rainbow colours in the popular parade.

The festival has received a grant under Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program which helps not-for-profit organisations to make a positive difference to the lives of local residents.

Executive General Manager of Major Projects Gordon Taylor and Acting Executive General Manager of Delivery Jennifer Hughes will be among the Transgrid employees participating in the event on Saturday (March 9).

“Transgrid is committed to creating an inclusive, friendly, and supportive environment in the diverse communities where we live and work,” Mr Taylor said.

“Through our Rise Ally Network we are driving initiatives to ensure our LGBTQI+ employees can be their authentic selves at work and enjoy a safe, equitable and respectful workplace where all staff can contribute and help deliver Australia’s clean energy future.

“The Riverina is at the heart of our renewable energy transition, with our major transmission projects centred on the region.

“Transgrid is committed to being an industry leader in diversity and inclusion. We are proud to support the region’s annual celebration of equality for the LGBTQI+ community through our financial sponsorship of the Mardi Gras and participation in the Baylis Street parade and after party at the Victory Memorial Gardens.”

Wagga Mardi Gras President Holly Conroy said support for the event in the broader community has continued to go from strength to strength since the inaugural parade was held six years ago.

“A record number of 56 floats are expected to participate in this year’s parade, with between 10,000 and 20,000 spectators to line the street in support of the event,” Ms Conroy said.

“I thank Transgrid for their ongoing support in helping us to create a safe space for the LGBTQI+ community to celebrate their identity and continue to generate awareness and inclusivity in the local community.”
