Transgrid casts net wide to unearth new talent for clean energy projects

12 November 2025

A new recruitment program is initially offering eight people the opportunity to begin a career in project management at Transgrid, with participants to be mentored by experts across Australia’s largest transmission business and receive nationally accredited training.

In its first year, the Project Management Pathways Program will create eight new permanent Project Administrator roles that provide hands-on experience, combined with arrangements to complete the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice with Certitude Australia

Transgrid Executive General Manager of Delivery Jennifer Hughes said the program aims to unearth new talent from diverse backgrounds by providing the necessary support, training and career development opportunities.

“This program provides a new career pathway into project management, which would typically require candidates to have a technical background in construction or engineering,” she said.

“These Project Administrator roles will instead combine theoretical learning with practical experience and mentorship at Transgrid, supported by flexible working arrangements to help us attract a diverse pool of candidates.

“Successful applicants will have the opportunity to grow their career in a supportive environment and play a part in delivering Australia's energy transition.

“They will be working in Transgrid’s expert Delivery team, which manages a huge array of projects that are critical to keeping the lights on in NSW - everything from small-scale asset replacements to larger infrastructure projects.”

The Project Administrator roles offer a salary package of $117,192.71 including 16 per cent superannuation, a nine-day fortnight, and access to study leave while completing the Certificate IV.

The initial eight recruits will benefit from a support network that includes a mentor, work shadowing opportunities, and regular meetings where feedback is provided.

“There’s no set age limit for these roles, the real focus is on anyone who wants to reimagine their career, whether they have taken a career break or want to change industries,” Ms Hughes said.

“In particular, we encourage women to consider these roles as an opportunity to break into the energy sector.

“Candidates should possess qualities including customer service, time management and organisational skills, as well as a sense of curiosity and desire to learn new things.”

Proud First Nations woman Cassandra Sheridan, who joined Transgrid as an Aboriginal Cultural Officer in April this year, said the company’s flexible working policies had been a game changer for her family.

“Returning to work after parental leave was really difficult at my previous employer. There was no support, no flexibility or check-ins around how I would return,” she said.

“Joining Transgrid has been the most refreshing, genuine experience for me. I have a supportive manager who is keen to see me grow and shine, and I’ve found confidence, connection, and belonging in a workplace that truly values flexibility and inclusion.”

Opportunities are available in Transgrid’s regional locations such as Orange, Yass, Tamworth and Wagga, and in Sydney at premises in Ultimo and Wallgrove.

Applications close on 23 November, with employment and training scheduled to begin in late February 2026.
