Australia’s energy transition is often talked about in terms of transmission lines, substations and renewable generation. But behind every major infrastructure project are people making thousands of decisions that determine whether those projects move forward with clarity, confidence and control.
23 June 2026
Constance von Lowis is one of them.
At Transgrid, Constance works in project reporting and cost control, a role that sits at the intersection of data, delivery and decision-making. Her work helps major projects stay on course, supporting the infrastructure needed to power Australia’s future.
She is also one of the many women helping shape a rapidly changing energy sector. Transgrid is proud to be recognised as one of WORK180’s Top 101 Endorsed Employers for Women in 2026, reflecting its commitment to building a workplace where women can grow, lead and thrive.
Bringing different perspectives together
Working in project controls, Constance quickly saw a unique perspective on how major infrastructure projects are delivered.
Success and progress depend on bringing together different perspectives across finance, construction, planning, commercial and delivery.
"The technical side is important, but people skills are just as critical," she says. "Effective project controls is not about producing reports. It is about building relationships, understanding competing priorities, and creating a shared picture that allows better decisions to be made."
For Constance, the value of her role comes from connecting the dots. By bringing together information from across the project, she helps teams stay aligned, make informed decisions and keep moving towards a common goal.
Turning numbers into insight
Today, Constance’s role is built around data, but she is quick to point out that the numbers are only part of the story.
“Cost control isn’t about tracking costs,” she says. “It’s about understanding what’s happening on site and explaining where the project is heading.”
That distinction matters.
On major energy infrastructure projects, clear reporting can shape decisions, manage risk and give teams the confidence to act early. Constance works closely with delivery teams to test assumptions, understand what is changing on the ground and translate complex project information into practical insights.
Her work helps turn data into direction.
Building a career in a changing industry
As Australia’s energy sector has changed, so has Constance’s role.
What began as a data-focused position has grown into something more strategic, collaborative and commercially focused. The pace of change across the industry has created new challenges, but also new opportunities to learn, adapt and take on more responsibility.
For Constance, building a career in energy means being comfortable with change. New systems, new tools and new ways of working are part of the job.
Her approach is practical: stay curious, keep learning and don’t wait for perfect conditions before stepping forward.
Making an impact on HumeLink
One of Constance’s career highlights has been her work on HumeLink, one of Australia’s critical energy infrastructure projects.
In a complex and constantly shifting financial environment, she has helped bring greater clarity to forecasts, risks and project direction. That work supports more proactive decision-making and helps strengthen confidence in the project’s trajectory.
For Constance, seeing her work influence decisions on a project of this scale has been a defining experience.
It’s also a reminder the energy transition is not an abstract idea. It’s being delivered through real projects, real teams and real decisions made every day.
Creating space for women to thrive
Constance believes credibility in the energy sector is built through consistency, curiosity and the quality of your work.
“At Transgrid, people are recognised for the quality of their work,” she says.
Support from colleagues and leaders has helped her step into new challenges, including a Reporting Manager role. It’s a reflection of how capability is recognised – and how more women are influencing decisions and leading major projects across the sector.
For Constance, that progress is visible and motivating.
What keeps her motivated
The energy transition is moving quickly, and Constance finds real motivation in being part of that change.
The work is tangible. The progress can be seen. Projects move from planning and reporting into delivery, and the decisions made behind the scenes help shape outcomes that will support communities, industry and the future energy system.
She is also encouraged by the growing number of women stepping into leadership roles across the sector.
As the industry evolves, so too does the opportunity for women to help define what comes next.
Looking ahead
Since beginning her career, Constance has seen energy projects grow in scale, pace and complexity. She has also seen more women building careers in the sector and contributing to some of the country’s most important infrastructure.
For her, that combination is what makes this moment so exciting.
Australia’s energy system is changing in real time, and she’s helping to deliver the projects that shape it.
