FAQs

1. Who can apply?

The Community Partnerships Program is open to not-for-profit organisations delivering benefits to local communities where Transgrid has a presence. This includes community groups and service providers, registered charities, and other not-for-profit organisations.

Before applying, confirm that:
  • your organisation is not-for-profit;
  • your initiative will provide a lasting and practical benefit for the community;
  • your organisation is located in, or provides services to, an eligible area near a Transgrid project or existing easement;
  • your organisation has an ABN, or the grant will be administered by an incorporated not-for-profit organisation; and
  • the community benefiting from the initiative is covered by the postcode checker.

2. How much can we apply for?

Grants of up to $5,000 are available through the Transgrid Community Partnerships Program.

If your initiative costs more than that, you are still able to apply – you will simply need to demonstrate in your application how you plan to raise the remainder of the funds needed to ensure you can successfully deliver your initiative.

3. Can the grant cover operational expenses such as printing?

No. Community Partnerships Program grants cannot be used for routine operational expenses, such as printing or other ongoing business costs.
If you believe operational costs form an important part of your initiative, include these costs as part of your application with an explanation of why they should be considered.

Transgrid reserves the right to partially fund your initiative and specify where funds must be directed.

4. Do we need to provide quotes to support our application?

Yes. Your application must include evidence of the expected costs.
Please provide at least two quotes or other acceptable evidence for the goods or work included in your application.

5. Can we submit more than one application?

Yes. An eligible organisation may submit applications for more than one initiative in the same funding round.

Submit a separate application for each initiative. We will assess each application individually.

6. Can an initiative receive funding more than once?

No. If an application is successful and receives Community Partnerships Program funding, it will not be eligible for funding in future grant rounds.

Your organisation may apply for a different initiative if it meets the eligibility requirements.

7. Can my organisation apply for a smaller amount?

Organisations are encouraged to apply for any amount between $500 and $5,000 through the program.

8. What is SmartyGrants?

We use SmartyGrants to receive and manage Community Partnerships Program applications. Through the online platform, you can submit your application and supporting documents and follow the progress of your application.

Before submitting personal information, please read the privacy information provided on the application page.

Visit SmartyGrants

9. How will our personal information be handled?

We use SmartyGrants, a third-party platform, to receive and process Community Partnerships Program applications. Before submitting your application, read the privacy information on the application page.

It explains how personal information submitted through SmartyGrants will be collected, used, stored and disclosed.

Read the privacy information

10. Our office is located within an eligible Transgrid project area, but the communities we service are not. Can we apply?

No. As part of the Community Partnerships Program eligibility criteria, initiatives that receive funding must directly benefit communities located near a Transgrid project or existing easement.

Use the postcode checker to confirm whether the community benefiting from your initiative is in an eligible area.

11. What happens after we submit an application?

We may contact your organisation by phone or email if we need more information during the assessment process.

Please check that the contact details in your application are correct and monitor the nominated email account after applications close.

If we cannot obtain information needed to assess your application, we may be unable to progress it.

12. When will we receive the outcome?

We will email all applicants after the assessment process is complete.
If your initiative depends on funding by a particular date, include that date in your application. We will consider the information, but we cannot guarantee an outcome by your preferred date.

13. If successful, will we receive the full amount requested?

Not necessarily. We may offer less than the amount requested or approve funding for particular parts of an initiative.

This may occur when we receive more eligible applications than the available program funding can support. If we offer partial funding, we will explain the amount and the costs it may be used for.

14. If our application is approved, when will we receive its funding?

Successful applicants should receive their grant within 30 business days after:
  • accepting the funding offer; and
  • providing a valid invoice or all requested payment details.

Missing or incorrect information may delay payment.

15. How long do we have to spend the grant?

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, grant funding must be spent within 6-8 months of the grant date (commencing for rounds September 2027 onwards).

If you expect that you will not be able to use the funding within six months, contact us in writing as soon as possible to request an extension. We will consider the request, but an extension is not guaranteed.

If an extension is not approved, any unspent funding must be returned to Transgrid.

16. Who can we contact for help?

If you have questions about your proposed initiative or the application process, contact your local Transgrid engagement team or email cpp@transgrid.com.au.

We welcome questions before the closing date.
