Recent site tours have given community members and stakeholders an opportunity to see the progress firsthand, ask questions and learn more about how the Hub will support future energy workforce training. We thank everyone who has taken part.
More than 20 trainers and representatives from six energy organisations across Australia and New Zealand recently toured the Wagga Energy Training Hub.
The visit gave participants a close look at construction progress and prompted discussion about future training needs, regional workforce development and creating pathways close to major infrastructure projects.
Visitors also heard how engagement with local communities, industry partners and First Nations representatives is informing future education and training programs.
Training spaces are officially open with the commencement of training programs by HumeLink West and Ironbark.
The purpose-built spaces will support practical learning, skills development and collaboration for the Riverina and the wider energy sector.
Mulch from Livingstone Gully Road has been relocated to the Training Precinct for reuse in landscaping and site finishing works.
The initiative reduced the need to source new material and made practical use of a resource already available nearby. Teams from the Hub and HumeLink West worked with contractors and local delivery partners to coordinate the transfer and manage truck movements safely.
It is a practical example of how collaboration can reduce waste and make better use of materials during construction.

As Australia’s energy system transforms, so too must the workforce that supports it. The Transgrid Energy Training Hub has been designed to meet this challenge head-on.
Located in Wagga Wagga on Transgrid-owned land at Copland Street and Lake Albert Road, the Hub will provide a safe, controlled environment for specialised training in transmission tower construction and line stringing. It will support major projects like HumeLink and open long-term career pathways for regional communities. Its central Riverina location also ensures easy access for local trainees and industry partners.
The Training Hub will have capacity to train over 3,500 people annually in licence and competency-based short courses, upskill and verify competency training for 200 internationally qualified tradespeople, and support more than 150 trade qualifications across varying certificate and diploma levels. It will play a vital role in building a skilled, future-ready workforce.
The Training Hub will feature state-of-the-art facilities designed to provide the best possible training environment.
Transgrid is investing in our local workforce, boosting the regional economy, and ensuring that the benefits of the energy transition are shared with the communities that help deliver it.
The Employment, Skills and Supply Chains: Renewable Energy in NSW report estimates that employment in the electricity sector will require 14,000–22,000 workers over the next 15 years, with Transgrid alone forecasting 7,000 skilled jobs required for projects over the next decade.
Currently, there is a significant lack of public transmission training facilities in Australia, and no lines training facility in the Riverina region. As a result, foundational line training is often delivered in the field, creating inefficiencies, safety risks, and delays.
The Energy Training Hub will address these challenges by providing a controlled, purpose-built training environment in the Riverina, supporting HumeLink and other major projects. It is more than a training facility – it's a social legacy project.
Provide a legacy for the Riverina community through attracting and retaining crews to be trained locally
Deliver shared value through jobs, skills and education to build a career in energy
Provide opportunity for local Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and career pathways for local young workers
Build long-term partnerships with Charles Sturt University, TAFE and other education providers, including schools
The Training Hub is scheduled to open in early 2026. Construction of the altered transmission tower has started, with the remaining structures to commence in late 2025, following community engagement and all planning approvals.
