Western Sydney communities are invited to have their say on the planning assessment for a new 330 kV electricity substation that will help secure the region’s future power needs.
12 June 2026
Transgrid is planning to construct a new 330 kV substation at Kemps Creek, next to its existing 500 kV substation, as part of its joint plan with Endeavour Energy to address future capacity needs in the Western Sydney Priority Growth Area, including the new Western Sydney International Airport.
The substation project also comprises minor augmentation of electrical infrastructure within the existing 500 kV substation, and a new 100-metre, 330 kV transmission link.
Transgrid Executive General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Stakeholder Engagement and Environment Maryanne Graham encouraged members of the community to lodge a submission on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the project.
“We’re committed to working closely with the community as we plan this infrastructure, which is critical to ensuring Western Sydney has the reliable energy supply it needs to support its continued urban and economic growth,” Ms Graham said.
“Importantly, the REF outlines how Transgrid intends to manage any potential impacts during the construction and operation of the project.
“I encourage all interested parties to review the plans and learn more at our information sessions or alternatively make a submission via our website.”
Potential impacts such as vegetation clearing, noise, traffic and visual changes are expected to be generally minor or temporary, and will be managed through detailed mitigation plans and measures. Transgrid will work closely with communities in the ongoing development and delivery of mitigations.
Community information sessions will be held at Carnes Hill Marketplace on 18 and 25 June 2026, between 4pm and 9pm, where subject matter experts will be available to discuss the project.
The REF and more information on how to lodge a submission by 10 July 2026 is available on Transgrid’s website here.
