Specialist crews have begun permanent reconstruction of a transmission line in far south-western NSW damaged by a significant storm event earlier this year.

Transgrid completed installation of temporary towers and conductors along the 2.9km section of transmission line near Balranald in early February, following the severe storm on January 19.
Transgrid Executive General Manager of Delivery Jennifer Hughes said planning had begun immediately to permanently reconstruct the transmission line.
“Construction of the replacement transmission lines and towers will begin this month with drilling, foundation piling, pole erection and stringing scheduled for completion in June,” she said.
“Importantly, there will be no interruption to local power supply during the works, as power will be maintained to Balranald and surrounding communities from another transmission line.”
The six impacted lattice towers will be replaced by seven steel monopole structures. All transmission towers are required to meet stringent Australian standards in respect to wind resilience and go through rigorous testing during commissioning.
Local businesses Leader Cranes of Swan Hill and Mawsons Balranald Concrete Plant are among the contractors assisting with the project.
Up to 50 personnel will be on site during the permanent reconstruction works, with equipment including cranes, elevated work platforms and stringing machines.
“We would like to thank the landowner, our customers and local communities for their patience and understanding as we complete these essential transmission works as quickly and safely as possible,” Ms Hughes said.
