Transgrid has commenced planning for the construction of the permanent high-voltage transmission towers for Broken Hill and NSW Far West communities, following restoration overnight of the primary power supply for the region.

Transgrid expects to successfully return power to Broken Hill and surrounding communities by tomorrow afternoon, almost a week ahead of the expected timeframe.

As of 8:41pm Broken Hill time (ACDT) 31 Oct, Transgrid confirmed the power line linking Broken Hill to the HV transmission network was energised.

Transgrid crews have expedited reconstruction of the 3.5km storm-damaged transmission line near Broken Hill and are working to return the Far West region’s primary power supply as the NSW network operator extends its support to the community announcing $500,000 in grants.

Transgrid has released a proposed transmission line corridor for the NSW section of the nation-critical VNI West project and a preferred location for the border crossing into Victoria.

Emergency response crews have now erected all seven emergency response towers as repairs to the 3.5km storm-damaged transmission line near Broken Hill accelerate to restore the primary power supply to the Far West region as soon as possible, following the catastrophic weather event.
